Fall 2006 Ann and Abe Effron Grant Awards
The Ann and Abe Effron Donor Advised Fund committee reviewed 33 grant requests totaling $140,000. Funding priority is given to organizations involved in arts, culture and education with special consideration being given to grants that would make facilities and events more available to young people and senior citizens. Twenty-eight grants totaling $71,000 were awarded.
Fall 2006 Grant Awards Abbott House $3,000.00 Intensive Preventive Services for At Risk Families in Dutchess County Funds to help children and families gain access to an array of opportunities in the Dutchess County community for recreational, extra-curricular, arts and cultural activities. ARTS Center of the Greater Hudson Valley $1,000.00 Classes and Workshops for All Ages Support for a series of art classes in northern Dutchess County. Funds to underwrite the costs associated with providing transportation for seniors to attend the performance of The Best of Cole Porter. Beacon Community Center $3,000.00 The Drama Program Project One Funds to support fall and spring acting classes in the Drama Program Project, which seeks to bridge the gap between the communities that the arts typically serve in Dutchess County to communities that value the arts but have an unwillingness to attend, participate or access the theatre due to a lack of racial or cultural representation and economic affordability.
Brandeis University National Women's Committee $2,000.00 Annual Library Operating Funds For the purchase of materials (books, journals, film, etc.) and other needed state-of-the-art resources. Brandeis University National Women's Committee $3,000.00 Library Work Scholar Funds to support the salaries of undergraduate and graduate students, so they can work part-time as a component of their financial aid package. Community Hebrew School of Dutchess County $5,000.00 Special Needs Resource Room Funds to cover staff costs associated with the continuation of a special needs resource room. Congregation Beth David $500.00 Beth David Oral History Project Funds to preserve the history of the early days of Beth David while key participants are still alive. Funds will be used for recording equipment, honorariums and travel costs for the professional oral historians who will carry out the interviews that are core to the project. Support for buying and installing an alarm system Dutchess County YMCA $4,000.00 Urban Youth Access to Cultural and Educational Enrichment Funds to purchase a previously used bus. The bus will primarily be utilized to take youth on cultural and educational trips outside their local environment. Friends of Seniors of Dutchess County, Inc. $2,000.00 Reimbursement for Gas Mileage for Volunteers Funds to reimburse volunteers for their gas mileage with regard to transporting seniors and in visiting and providing respite for primary caregivers. Girl Scouts of Dutchess County, Inc. $1,500.00 The Al'kebulan Drumming Circle Funds to continue the Al'kebulan Drumming Circle program which provides instruction to girls on the playing of the drums as well as engages them in activities to teach them about the historical and cultural relevance of drumming. Half Moon Theatre $2,000.00 Cinderella - a new telling of an old tale Funds to provide transportation costs associated with the bussing of students and seniors to the James Earl Jones Theatre and back for a viewing of Cinderella - a new telling of an old tale. Hudson River Housing, Inc. $3,000.00 River Haven Enrichment Programming Funds to offset the costs associated with providing enrichment programs to runaway, homeless and at-risk youth by offering them art, music, history, sports and cultural events, along with educational workshops. Hyde Park Library District $1,500.00 Creating a Community Cultural Center Funds to purchase a computer data projector and a portable sound system for the newly renovated annex facility. Jewish Community Center of Dutchess County $5,000.00 Book Festival, Book and Juried Crafts Fair Funds to bring one or two renowned authors to speak at the festival on topics that will expand the audience's cultural horizons. Jewish Federation of Dutchess County, Inc. $6,000.00 General Support Support for general operations, staff, programs for the community, monthly newspaper, and allocations to the major Jewish agencies in the community as well as overseas partners. Jewish Federation of Dutchess County, Inc. $500.00 Jewish Cemetery Project Mid-Hudson Children's Museum $3,000.00 Reduced Admission for Accessibility for Underserved Children and Families Funds will be used to supplement the admissions cost for those who are economically disadvantaged. Mill Street Loft, Inc. $2,000.00 Stairway Lift Funds for electrical wiring, purchase and installation of Model A450 stairway lift that will allow handicap/disabled individual’s access to the 2nd floor. Funds to support the 6th Annual Family Arts Festival to be held in July 2007. Poughkeepsie Chapter of Hadassah $2,000.00 Young Judaea Camp Quota and Donation for the Hadassah Medical Hospital E.R. Poughkeepsie Day Nursery, Inc. $2,100.00 Create a Joyful Noise Around the World Funds to offer the "Create a Joyful Noise Around the World" program which will incorporate music, folk dancing and art into the enrichment curriculum and will include the study of cultures and customs of our rich and diverse inner city community. Poughkeepsie Public Library District $1,000.00 Looking At: Jazz Funds to support a six -week Jazz film/discussion series with an emphasis on an intergenerational mix of people in the community. Rhinebeck Performing Arts, Inc. $1,500.00 The Center's Exploration and Science Series Funds will be applied to artist fees, technical support, marketing and program support expenses for six performances of two productions related to science and exploration: "Fun with Energy" in February and April 2007, and "The Lewis & Clark Expedition" on March 14, 2007. Saint Francis Healthcare Foundation $1,400.00 Music Together - A Music and Movement Program Funds to provide a six-week Music and Movement Program for 35 children - aged 2 months to 2 1/2 years. This funding will support the busing of students from the Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Beacon, and Kingston school districts to the Art Center to view original works of art by Saul Steinberg and to participate in docent-led tours and educational activities tailored to each group's grade level and curriculum.
