Six organizations have received grants totaling $4,600 from the Bertha Effron Fund. The Bertha Effron Fund was established to preserve and strengthen Jewish culture and Jewish institutions in this area.
Fall 2009 Grant Awards
Community Hebrew School of Dutchess County $500
The shofar-making workshop will provide the school's students with the opportunity to discover the process of shofar making. The children will have a chance to watch the entire process from start to finish and to make a shofar on their own which they will take home to use on the holidays for years to come.
Congregation Schomre Israel $1,000
Support for a Program and Outreach Director.
Jewish Community Center of Dutchess County $500
Purchase of children's books and Judaic music to support Judaic values based curriculum.
Jewish Family Services $1,500
Support for Mitzvah Day, an annual community event in which volunteers from the Jewish community (and their friends of all faiths) provide help to many local charitable and nonprofit organizations.
Sisterhood Temple Beth-El $500
Support for a guest speaker, Rahel Musleah, an award-winning journalist, singer, speaker and educator, whose presentations center on the Indian Jewish community, the culture and history.
Vassar Temple $600
Support for Vassar Temple's "Torah Restoration" project which will restore four Torah scrolls, all of which have deteriorated and are in urgent need of immediate restorative attention.
