It was practically a given that any team that wanted to win the championship had to defeat MJ on the way there.

From the 1990–1991 season through the 1992–1993 season, this was the situation.

However, MJ declared his retirement from the sport in 1993 and switched to baseball. He participated for almost two years before joining the NBA once more in March 1995.

He would miss the championship game in this 1994–95 season. The Bulls would fall to the Shaquille O'Neal-led youthful Orlando Magic.

Shaq continued by saying that it seemed as though MJ had learned from his mistakes in the previous season in the subsequent season.

In 1996, he would come back to defeat Shaq's Magic 4-0. "I'm aware that Michael genuinely picked up knowledge from Michael,

and the next year they came back and destroyed us. Make sure we didn't win a game, you know," he said.
